European Master degree in Oral Laser applications (EMDOLA)
EC reference: 28133-IC-1-2004-1-BE-ERASMUS-PROGUC-2

Due to recent developments in Oral laser therapy, Universities had to take in charge teaching those applications. European DDS, poorly prepared on this topic, needed loyal information and experience before applying this technical approach.
Three Universities walking on their own road (Aachen 1995, Brussels then Liège 1996, Nice 2000) decided to join their efforts. A common educational programme was built in respect of the Bologna recommendations and submitted to European experts (Education and Culture Commission, Life Long Learning, Socrates programme).
The first year programme is composed of eight modules: optics, physics of lasers, interaction laser-tissues, laser safety and properties of lasers, lasers conservative dentistry and caries prevention, lasers and endodontics, lasers in oral surgery, periodontics and implantology, Low Level Laser Therapy plus jurisprudence and practice management.
The second year includes one module in Clinics and one module for in vitro research. At the end of the cursus, students have to defend a master Thesis in front of an international jury.
Agreement by the EC for a European Master Degree on Oral Laser Applications (EMDOLA) was delivered in March 2005 (28133-IC-1-2004-1-BE-ERASMUS-PROGUC-2). The EMDOLA started in those three Universities in September 2006. In May 2007, this educational programme received the Bronze Award by the EC and the coordinator of the EMDOLA, Pr. Nammour, went to Berlin for this special surprise. In September 2008, three new Universities (Parma University, Barcelona University, Roma La Sapienza University) joined the programme. New candidates are expected in the future.
The EMDOLA demonstrated to be qualified for harmonization and education in the field of laser dentistry based on a high educational programme.
